Choose the Right Spark Plugs for Your Nissan

Most drivers understand what spark plugs do, but fewer know how they wear down and need to be replaced. These small but essential components ignite the air-fuel mixture inside your engine's cylinders thousands of times per minute. When spark plugs wear out, engine performance suffers noticeably. We carry genuine Nissan spark plugs engineered specifically for your vehicle's requirements.

How Spark Plugs Create Combustion

Spark plugs generate electrical arcs between two electrodes inside each cylinder. The ignition system sends high-voltage electricity to each plug at precisely timed intervals. This electrical discharge ignites compressed fuel and air, creating the explosion that powers your engine. The Nissan Sentra and Nissan Maxima use specially designed plugs that match their engines' compression ratios and fuel requirements. The ceramic insulator protects the metal components while conducting heat away from the combustion chamber.

Why Spark Plugs Wear Out

Extreme heat and constant electrical discharge gradually erode the electrode tips. Carbon deposits build up on the plugs and interfere with proper spark formation. The gap between electrodes slowly widens beyond specification as metal wears away. Fuel additives and contaminants create deposits that insulate the electrodes and reduce spark intensity. Aftermarket plugs often use lower-grade materials that degrade much faster than genuine Nissan components.

When to Install New Spark Plugs

Replace spark plugs according to your maintenance schedule, typically between 30,000 and 100,000 miles depending on plug type. Install new plugs immediately if you experience rough idling, reduced fuel economy, or difficulty starting. Misfires indicate worn plugs that require prompt replacement.
